I have worked the first 2 rows and the blanket is not laying flat I am wondering what I am doing wrong.

Thanks for getting in touch with The Crochet Space.
It is hard to tell without seeing the actual work you’ve done, but I don’t think you have done anything wrong. The work needs to get some “weight” to it before it becomes flat. Also, you will probably need to do some light blocking once you have finished the throw.

I can Crochet a chain .My grandm9ther taught me how to hold the yarn and wrap it around my fingers like you have done .I would love to try again here 50 years later to really crochet something Useful .
